Who is number two in the YSRCP? It would be tempting to count Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s family into this lot; more specifically Jagan’s sister Y.S. Sharmila Reddy. But given how she was kept away from the party and political affairs post the elections, it leaves us with few doubts about her role. So, one is left with a certain Rajya Sabha MP. He is known as Jagan’s Man Friday; both literally and metaphorically, for he is also A2 (accused no. 2) in the Disproportionate Assets (DA) case, worth lakhs of crores, being investigated by the CBI for which both attend the special court in Hyderabad every Friday.
Vijay Sai Reddy (VSR) was labelled the kingpin of Jagan’s corrupt empire. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant (CA) who is the financial advisor to various companies that Jagan owns including Jagathi publications (Sakshi paper) and Indra TV (Sakshi TV). In fact, he can be best described as a gatekeeper. Now it is interesting to recollect that Jagan’s father Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy too had a conscience-keeper back in the day. K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao was also described as his fall guy.
K.V.P. Ramchandra Rao is currently a Rajya Sabha MP from the Congress party. Recently during their investigation into Russian involvement in the ‘Trump’ election in 2016, American Department of Justice (DoJ) found that Ukrainian oligarch, Dmytro Firtash conspired to pay at least $18.5 million to Indian officials in bribes to secure licences to illegally mine minerals in Andhra Pradesh”. In fact, an Interpol red alert notice was issued against K.V.P. for the same. However, Indian investigating agencies are yet to register a case.
The Interpol notice has raised some serious allegations of corruption against Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. For it would be impossible for the ‘conscience’ to fool oneself so much for so long. The scion seems to be following in the footsteps of his father in this case too. Just that Jagan’s gatekeeper, VSR, has not achieved international notoriety, as yet.
Much before Jagan announced that Visakhapatnam would be made the executive capital of the State, VSR had shifted his base to the coastal city. Going by his history, he must have been scouting to open news gates of corruption. One real opportunity is real estate and this qualifies for a clear case of insider trading. Opposition leaders have already raised serious questions of a speculative land scam in the city.
Finally, over the last one year since YSRCP was in power, VSR has been making wild accusations and spreading fake news through his Twitter handle. More often than not, he is seen in various events and government programmes shepherding all the YSRCP leaders from North Andhra starting from Avanti Srinivas to Dharmana Krishna Das. All this points to the incredible hold that VSR has over the party. And whenever Man Friday grows too big to fall, YSRCP might be re-christened as VSRCP.
