Speaking through video conference, TDP Chief N. Chandrababu Naidu announced Panabaka Lakshmi as the party’s candidate for the upcoming by-elections for the parliamentary seat of Tirupati. The Tirupati is an SC-reserved parliamentary seat that fell vacant after sitting MP Balli Durga Prasad Rao succumbed to COVID-19 in the month of September.
A former leader of the Indian National Congress, Panabaka Lakshmi, has also served as Former Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare and Union Minister of State for Textile. Panabaka Lakshmi had joined TDP in the run upto the 2019 elections.
The TDP Supremo motivated his party cadre and noted that corruption was increasing in just 18 months of the YSRCP government.
Referring to the 3 capitals fiasco, Chandrababu Naidu said the ruling YSRCP is “killing” the capital city and has created a crisis of jobs for the state’s youth. The former Chief Minister Naidu, even questioned the stagnancy in Polavaram development works and the atmosphere of fear among investors.
Meanwhile, the BJP is keen on winning the Tirupati by-election. Recently, Andhra BJP president Somu Veerraju expressed “confidence” in bagging the seat in the backdrop of its winning in Telangana’s Dubbaka assembly by-election. YSRCP might announce its candidate soon as well. In all likelihood, BJP might be rope in its ally, actor-turned-politician Pawan Kalyan to campaign for them.
