Hundreds of people came to Eluru Government Hospital till late night on Saturday with a strange disease. Sources confirmed that illness is due to drinking water pollution in Eluru. Symptoms involve vomiting, diarrhoea and seizures among children. The situation remained chaotic till early morning Sunday as doctors tried to attend to multiple patients simultaneously.
AP Truth has learnt that for over 18 months officials neglected demands to clean the main pump near Vangayagudem, Pampulan Cheruvu and had not taken any measures to ensure the water is potable. Even regular addition of chlorine had been ignored for several months. Most of the children affected with this problem are having issues with their nervous system. Citizens from Kothapet, Satyanarayanapeta, Vangayagudem and Tangellamudi have been alerted about drinking water being the potential cause of this illness.
