In the past 18 months, after Jaganmohan Reddy-led YCP state government came into power in the state of Andhra Pradesh, the state has been witnessing a rise in the attacks on the Hindu institutions. In the most recent incident, an idol of Lord Rama got damaged at a hilltop temple in Nellimarla Mandal of Vizianagaram district. As per the official report, the authorities think the unfortunate incident must have happened during the late night after the regular temple hours. As per the ground reports, few unidentified men have allegedly broken the door of the temple and damaged the idol of Lord Rama by separating the head of the idol.
The temple and the Rama idol are said to have a strong history and legacy of over 400 years. The incident was firstly noticed by the priest of the concerned temple when he visited the temple for the usual morning rituals. As a follow-up, a case has been registered and the Superintendent of Police, Raja Kumari has told the media that the incident doesn’t seem like an accidental one but an intentional attempt. She has also notified that a special team has been formed to do further investigations on it.
Meantime, several opposition parties and other cultural organisations have staged protests and lashed out against the Y.S Jaganmohan Reddy led the YCP state government on their inefficiency and ignorance to safeguard the Hindu Institutions in the state. Widespread criticism has aroused in the protests that the negligence of the YCP led the state government to identify and arrest the culprits in the past incidents is the major reason for the repeating incidents in the state.
Concerning this matter, YCP’s Member of Parliament from Narasapuram constituency has written to the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi requesting for intervention and investigation from the Central team regarding all the attacks and violence that happened with the Hindu institutions in the state. He has also added that there have been over 100 attacks that happened against the Hindu institutions in the state during the 18 months tenure of the YCP led state government tenure and members of the Hindu organisations in the state are getting brutally attacked and arrested by the state police department.
