YSR Congress President and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has announced his personal physiotherapist Dr. Gurumurthy as the candidate for Tirupati Lok Sabha by-election. The seat was left vacant after sitting MP Balli Durga Prasad Rao died in September earlier this year.

According to sources, during the Padayatra, it was Gurumurthy who constantly treated Jagan and accompanied him. Jagan has finally rewarded Gurumurthy by picking him as the Lok Sabha candidate for Tirupati. Jagan’s decision has shocked many leaders in the party.

Initially, it was speculated that late Balli Durga Prasad’s son would be chosen as the candidate. However, reports indicate that CM Jagan has decided to offer an MLC seat to Balli Durga Prasad’s family.

While TDP has announced Panabaka Lakshmi as the candidate, CM Jagan seems to have rewarded his personal physiotherapist and chosen Dr. Gurumurthy. BJP is also going to announce its candidate soon. It is not clear whether Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena would announce a candidate or back BJP’s candidate.

Tirupati Lok Sabha is an SC-reserved parliament constituency and the by-election is expected to be held early next year. The seat was won by YSRCP with a margin of a little over 2 lakh votes in 2019.
